Gallery of Cemeteries & Columbaria

Colorado Springs, Colorado

Below you will find a gallery of the different cemeteries and columbaria available in and around the Diocese of Colorado Springs, CO. Please note, that while we try to keep this information as up to date and detailed as possible, we are not funeral directors and cannot arrange burial, cremation or masses for your precious child.

We CAN however, help you to access the information you need to carry out this important Corporal Work of Mercy yourself, and answer questions about the process.

Memorial Gardens – Garden of Angels

Dignity Memorial owns multiple funeral homes and cemeteries within the Diocese of Colorado Springs. While this is not a Catholic organization, Memorial Gardens Funeral, Cremation & Cemetery offers a Catholic section in Memorial Gardens.

They will also accept, prepare and bury remains of preborn to 1-year-old babies. Their policies have recently changed, and we have been told they can no longer do this at no cost, but the option still remains to families. We hope to negotiate a reversal of this new policy soon.

These children are buried in the Garden of Angels portion of the cemetery with a temporary grave marker. Families may purchase a permanent headstone if they desire.

Mt. Saint Francis Columbarium & Holy Innocents Niche

Mount Saint Francis Columbarium offers a Holy Innocents niche for the ashes of preborn children at no charge to families. The outside of the niche is engraved “Holy Innocents.” Families can also opt to purchase a niche of their own. Families will still need to work with a funeral home to have their child’s remains cremated before Mt Saint Francis can lay them to rest in the columbarium.

Hospital Disposition of Remains

This is the 3rd option in Colorado Springs, for laying our preborn losses to rest – but tragically we cannot recommend it for the following reasons:

What is hospital disposition?

Hospital disposition at both major medical systems in our community involves allowing the medical facility to cremate your child’s remains. They would then lay your child’s remains to rest with the remains of other children through an ecumenical memorial service, which are typically offered quarterly.

Why would this be a problem?

While this seems like a noble offering by hospital systems that serve people of all faith backgrounds, we believe in the Imago Dei – that all humans are unique and unrepeatable creations made in God’s Image and Likeness. We do not use mass graves as Catholics. We ought not  participate in ecumenical services either, especially when there is a reasonable, attainable Catholic alternative.

What is my alternative?

Schedule a private memorial Mass with your parish priest, or attend a Catholic Memorial Mass open to all families touched by preborn and infant losses. In the Diocese of Colorado Springs these are offered about every quarter. Consider pursuing any of the other burial or cremation options suggested on this website.
